He covered events like the moon landing. Olympic Games. Terry Fox and his Marathon of Hope; the patriation of the Constitution of Canada. The Quebec Referendums in 1980 and 1985 on separating from this country. The Sept. 11 attacks in 2001.

And, in 1970, veteran Canadian journalist Lloyd Robertson was front and centre in Vernon, B.C. for the 10th annual Vernon Winter Carnival.

Robertson was a special guest of Carnival that year.

He was the CBC News' The National anchor from 1970 to 1976 before moving to the CTV Television Network in October 1976.

Robertson served as the chief anchor and senior editor of CTV's national evening newscast, CTV News with Lloyd Robertson, from 1984 to 2011, when he retired from the CTV National News team. He co-hosted W5 from 2011 to 2016.

Robertson's signature sign-off of each news broadcast was, "And that's the kind of day it's been."

The 65th Vernon Winter Carnival is underway, wrapping up this Sunday, Feb. 16.
