麻豆精选 council likes what it sees in new activity centres in Glenmore and Mission.
Staff recently gave council an update on functional space planning for facilities. They will offer multi-generational programs and 91 childcare spaces at each location.
Councillor Luke Stack said he would like to see a coffee or gathering area for visitors.
鈥淚t would actually enhance what you鈥檙e already proposing,鈥� he told staff.
Coun. Maxine DeHart agreed noting the city would 鈥渕iss the mark鈥� without a coffee or food facility.
Staff told council that vending machines offering health food options will be located in both facilities.
Stack was also pleased to learn the Glenmore centre will have a full-size gym.
鈥淭hat is a real win for the Glenmore community. It鈥檚 a big item.鈥�
Glenmore will also be home to an Okanagan Regional Library (ORL) express branch.
鈥淭here are a lot of small communities that don鈥檛 have the funding to have full branches so this is going to serve as a pilot,鈥� Coun. Loyal Wooldridge, and former ORL board chair, said.
Another express branch will be part of the future redevelopment of Parkinson Recreation Centre.
鈥淭he ORL, that鈥檚 a great opportunity for safe space鈥hat to me is a huge win,鈥� Coun. Gord Lovegrove added.
Staff told council that planning was also broadened to include opportunities for the future expansion of MNP Place, the H2O Adventure + Fitness Centre, and the overall Mission Recreation Park (MRP) campus.
The city鈥檚 10-year capital budget includes a renovation and expansion of MNP Place in 2028-29.
