Lake Country council settled on a 9.52 per cent property tax increase for 2024.

That amount is down from the 10.2 per cent initially considered by council in Dec. 2023.

At its Feb. 27 meeting, staff told council public engagement revealed concerns over two major tax increases in a row, road conditions, and replacing failing infrastructure.

Council approved a 17.05 per cent tax increase in 2023.

Public comments also urged the district to be effective in managing costs and to look for grant opportunities and other ways to offset those costs to property owners.

The district receives approximately $1.15 million in annual grants. It was unsuccessful in $14.5 million worth of grant applications in 2023.

The majority of that amount, $14.1 million, was for Phase 5 of the wastewater treatment plant through a federal government grant that was denied.

The 9.52 per cent property tax increase represents an approximate increase of $248.00 to the average single-family home which is currently assessed at $1,086,000 in Lake Country.

Nearly 42 per cent of the district鈥檚 revenue comes from property taxes.
