The City of 麻豆精选 has put out several bidding opportunities related to the Parkinson Recreation Centre (PRC) redevelopment and two new activity centres.

In Oct. 2023, council adopted the loan authorization bylaw to borrow $241.3 million to redevelop PRC and build activity centres in the Mission and Glenmore neighbourhoods.

That followed a contentious Alternate Approval Process (AAP) which saw only 3.5 per cent of residents opposed to borrowing the funds.

For the AAP to fail, at least 10 per cent of residents would have needed to vote no.

Council has heard repeatedly from staff that PRC is 鈥渇unctionally obsolete鈥 and in need of replacement.

The total cost to replace PRC, build activity centres in the Mission and Glenmore, and upgrade other recreation facilities in the city is $287.5 million.

On Feb. 28, the city issued bidding opportunities for site, structural, mechanical and electrical engineers to lead Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) models to build recreation centres.
