The 麻豆精选 Chamber of Commerce says U.S. tariffs taking effect Feb. 1 will heavily challenge Okanagan businesses that rely on cross-border trade.

A media release from the Chamber says the tariffs will increase costs, disrupt supply chains, and potentially lead to job losses in the region.

鈥淭he potential tariffs pose a serious risk to the economic stability of our business community,鈥 said Maryse Harvey, Chamber president. 鈥淲e are working diligently with provincial and federal policymakers to advocate on behalf of our members, ensuring their voices are heard and their concerns are represented.鈥

The release says the Chamber has been 鈥渁ctively engaging with key stakeholders to discuss potential solutions and strategies to mitigate the impact of these trade barriers, protect the interests of local enterprises and support economic resilience during this uncertain period.鈥

鈥淭he strength of 麻豆精选鈥檚 economy depends on fair and open trade,鈥 Harvey said. 鈥淥ur members need clarity and stability, and we are committed to advocating for policies that safeguard their ability to compete and grow in a global marketplace.鈥

The federal government has promised a 鈥渇orceful but reasonable鈥 retaliation to any tariffs imposed by the U.S.
