Peachland council is knocking on the door of provincial ministers to get movement on a major housing development.
The New Monaco project would build 2,000 homes on 125 acres of land between Highway 97 and the Connector.
However, the development鈥檚 viability depends on securing access from Highway 97.
鈥淎 matter we are actively addressing with the developer and the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure,鈥 Mayor Patrick Van Minsel wrote in a letter to Municipal Affairs Minister, Anne Kang.
The mayor鈥檚 letter stated that the project would create more than 2,000 jobs and deliver a regional economic impact of $400 million.
鈥淩ecently, our CAO collaborated with a local developer whose proposed development was not economically viable.鈥
鈥淲e are presently working with that developer to find a mutually beneficial solution that would yield approximately 100 residential units, and I believe a solution has been found.鈥
The proposal is expected to be presented to council in June.
Van Minsel has also requested a meeting with Housing Minister Ravi Kahlon as New Monaco has proposed donating land for affordable housing.
