It's the end of January, but it looks like the first big snowfall of the winter to set to hit the North Okanagan and a couple major highways.
On Friday morning (Jan. 31), Environment Canada issued a snowfall warning for the North Okanagan and Shuswap and a winter storm warning for the Trans-Canada Highway from Eagle Pass to Rogers Pass as well as the Coquihalla Highway from Hope to Merritt.
From Revelstoke to Salmon Arm, and south to Vernon and Lake Country, 10-20 cm of snow "can be expected by midday today" due to a frontal system moving through the area.
Meanwhile, Trans-Canada Highway from Eagle Pass to Rogers Pass is expecting 25 cm of snow by the end of the day while the Coquihalla is set to take on 25-35 cm starting Friday and going into Saturday, as well as strong winds.
"Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations," said Environment Canada. "Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow."
In this conditions, weather can change suddenly. Drivers should be prepared and drive with caution.
At the time, the Okanagan Connector and from 麻豆精选 down to the South Okanagan is expecting two cm of snow on Friday but have no warnings issued.
