12-hour water outage planned in Coldstream

The taps will turn off for some properties from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. April 15

Some Coldstream residents will have their water taps turned off for 12 hours next week.

The Regional District of North Okanagan (RDNO) said Wednesday that a planned upgrade to the Warren Road pump station infrastructure will result in customers being out of water on April 15 from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., while new piping is installed.

The affected properties are 6551 to 7419 Buchanan Road, 10045 to 10512 Warren Road, 6173 to 6205 Highway 6, and 6233 to 6257 Highway 6.

Once water returns, the RDNO and Interior Health will advise these affected customers that they are on a boil water notice until sampling results confirm the drinking water is safe.

Before the water shutdown, affected residents are advised to store a suitable amount of water for drinking, cooking, toilets and animals.

When the water service resumes, people living in the area may experience reduced water pressure, discolouration of the water and/or air in the water. They are advised to run a cold water tap until the water has cleared. An outside tap is preferred.

"The level of treatment provided by the RDNO has been maintained; however, customers in the affected area should boil their water for at least one minute when preparing food, drinking, washing fruits and vegetables, making beverages or ice or brushing their teeth," the RDNO said.

When the boil water notice is rescinded, it will be posted on the RDNO website and an email will be sent to subscribers.

Questions about the outage can be directed to the District of Coldstream's operational services at 250-550-1505.

The District of Coldstream also advises that Warren Road will remain closed to all traffic and pedestrians between Highway 6 and Buchanan Road until Wednesday, April 16. The section of Warren Road has been closed since March 31 for water main construction. No through traffic is allowed, but access is being maintained for residents who live in the construction zone, and detours are available via Buchanan Road and Ricardo Road.
