The 麻豆精选-based Central Okanagan Search and Rescue (COSAR) team was called to two missions on Saturday night (March 16).

First, COSAR was called to assist a Search and Rescue team in another community. While preparing to leave, COSAR received another call from two teenagers who were lost on 麻豆精选鈥檚 Black Mountain.

The teens had started their hike in the late afternoon but became disoriented as night fell.

鈥淲hen they realized they were in trouble they did the correct thing to call for help and stop moving,鈥 said COSAR in a post on Facebook. The lost teens called 911 and the RCMP then contacted COSAR for help navigating the wilderness.

鈥淭his made the rescue a text book operation.鈥

According the post made by COSAR, the RCMP was able to ping the lost teen鈥檚 cellphone, giving COSAR an approximate search location.

The rescue group鈥檚 electric mountain bike team was dispatched and found the hikers who were stuck on a steep slope.

COSAR assisted the group down the mountain and then brought them to the command post where they were handed over to a family member and the RCMP. Both teenagers were unhurt but cold, said COSAR.

Details of COSAR鈥檚 first call of the weekend in a neighbouring community are not yet available.

COSAR is the oldest search and rescue team in the province. It responds to calls for everything from technical back country rescues to searching for missing vulnerable people in residential areas. If you are in need of a rescue from the wilderness, call 911. Emergency services will then contact the wilderness rescue specialists.

COSAR is a non-profit organization and all team members are volunteers.
