The throne speech marks the beginning of another session in the B.C. legislature, but Elections BC isn鈥檛 winding down yet.

While there鈥檚 no word on an early election, agency spokesperson Andrew Watson said staff have to remain prepared.

鈥淲e are conducting preparatory activities in case we are called upon to administer a snap election this year or before the next scheduled date in 2021,鈥 said Watson. 鈥淭hese activities include inquiring about space availability for district electoral offices and voting places, restocking supplies [such as] ballot boxes, training materials and preparing to recruit election officials.鈥

No new staff have been hired, Watson added.

鈥淭hese activities in no way presume that another election will be called this year, but recognize that this is a possibility.鈥
