The City of Vernon is warning residents about a parking ticket scam that's currently making the rounds.
In a social media post, the city said it is aware of fraudulent text messages from scam artists pretending to be from the British Columbia Parking Department.
The messages tell people they owe a parking fine and risk having their licence suspended if they don't pay.
"These messages are not legitimate," the city said. "The city does not send parking ticket notifications by text."
The city urged people who receive such texts not to respond or click any links, and to report it to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
"Remember to Take 5, Ask 2: Take five minutes. Ask two people you trust for their advice. Always verify before you act," the city advises.
