The time of year has come for Canada鈥檚 top skiers to hit the slopes.
From Dec. 14 to 17, there will be 80 of the nation鈥檚 top mogul athletes at Apex Mountain Resort near Penticton for the first entry of the 2024 Canada Cup Mogul Series.
An additional 30 international skiers 鈥 from Japan, South Korea, Australia and Great Britain 鈥 will compete at the event.
Previously known as the 鈥淐anadian Selections,鈥 Freestyle Canada holds the event every year to identify athletes for its National C Team and provincial-level mogul athletes.
Skiers range in age from 14 to 24.
鈥淎s this is the first stop in the Canada Cup 2024 Moguls Series, for most it will be the earliest opportunity for athletes and coaches to evaluate whether they put in enough work in the off-season and their results will be valued in Canada Cup Rankings,鈥 a press release from Apex reads.
First-time entrants representing the Apex club include Brandon VanSchalm, Leo Longstreet, Emelie McCaughey and Jackson Kendell.
The competition will take place on the mountain鈥檚 four-lane mogul run, according to the club.
A panel of seven judges will evaluate athletes on turns, speed, and air, they added.
The 2024 Canada Cup Mogul Series will consist of:
鈥 Dec. 14- Unofficial training
鈥 Dec. 15- Official training
鈥 Dec. 16- Single moguls competition
鈥 Dec. 17- Dual moguls competition
All of the events are free to watch, with the viewing area about a five-minute walk up from the Apex village.
