The league-leading Sicamous Eagles maintained that position after notching another win over the weekend, defeating the Â鶹¾«Ñ¡ Chiefs 4-1 on the road.
The day after helping serve at the Sicamous chamber’s Business Excellence Awards, the team headed south for their only on-ice match up of the weekend. Getting off to a slow start, the game saw little action in the first two frames. Scoring the lone goal in the first, Owen Dewitt got the Eagles on the board early, assisted by Josh Missfeldt and Alex Smith. That was followed by just a handful of penalties throughout the second, before both teams turned up the heat in the third.
At just 25 seconds in, Dewitt scored while the team was shorthanded, assisted by Duncan Paradis. Daniel Kroon potted an insurance goal mid-frame off of passes from Nick Wright and Ezra Chan, followed up a minute late by Devon Barclay scoring off of Caleb Dehoog and Parker Fournier for a 4-0 lead going into the home stretch.
The Chiefs managed to avoid a shutout, barely, with Aiden Cotroneo scoring shorthanded at the 19:47 mark, assisted by Nikita Syerov.
Though Â鶹¾«Ñ¡ only scored once in their 16 shots on goal, they did manage to rack up 12 penalties totalling 51 minutes in the box. Chiefs forward Parker MacDonald doubled down on his infractions, earning a 10 minute game misconduct at the same time as being assessed a Major Penalty for Kneeing that resulted in a three-game suspension that will keep him out of play until Jan. 5.
The Eagles are back on the ice this weekend with a double header at home, facing off against the 100 Mile House Wranglers on Friday, Dec. 15 and the Columbia Valley Rockies on Saturday, Dec. 16. The puck drops at 7 p.m. both nights.
