Highland dancers from Vernon brought home national medals at the ScotDance Canada Championship Series earlier this month.
Chauntal Rosborough (27), Megan Glasser (21), Brynn Gowen (18), Claire Radies (15), and Rebecca Acob (13) were the five dancers from Vernon鈥檚 Aviemore School of Highland Dance to compete in the competition that brought together over 900 from Canada, Scotland, USA and Australia.
The four day competition took place from July 2-6 in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Acob started the competition with a bronze medal performance in the Canada Championship. Her success came after being named the provincial champion in the under 14 category at the provincial competition in Coquitlam back in May.
Radies and Acob joined forces with a dancer from Kamloops and two from Scotland to enter the team choreography competition. Choreographed by Roseborough, the team won the gold medal.
Then, on the final day of the competition, Acob added another gold to her collection, with a win in the ScotDance Canada Open Championship 13 year old category.
鈥淚 am so grateful to have had my dance teachers Ms. Cheryl and Ms. Chauntal by my side helping me every step of the way,鈥 said Acob. 鈥淭hey helped me through four long days that included an extremely long and hard day emotionally. They stood by my side and encouraged me tremendously.
鈥淚 definitely could not have done this without them. As well people from my dance school and friends back at home. Those people were so proud and excited for me. I am very thankful to have my dance school鈥檚 support.鈥
