Salvation Army battling hunger with 麻豆精选 fundraiser

One out of every 11 Canadians live in poverty says the Central Okanagan Salvation Army, and the fight is on. To battle food insecurity, the Salvation Army is taking up arms to combat hunger with a fundraising campaign in the region.

The 60-day 鈥淗ope After Hunger鈥 summer fundraising campaign will be dedicated to breaking the cycles of poverty.

On Saturday May 25, volunteers will be on stationed at all five Save On Foods locations in 麻豆精选 and West 麻豆精选 from 12 p.m. until 6 p.m. to collect donations for The Salvation Army.

The Salvation Army鈥檚 鈥楥aptain鈥 Jennifer Henson said the funds raised during the campaign will be used directly for client assistance, including; grocery gift cards, gas gift cards, hygiene items, transportation costs, rental subsidies, utility payments, language assistance, financial literacy, tax prep, and more.

Last year, the Salvation Army subsidized nearly to $100,000 worth of essentials for people who have a low-income.

To break the cycles of poverty, The Salvation Army works with individuals, families, and seniors to identify the root causes of their unique situation. The most significant barriers include employment, income, housing, food insecurity, and childcare, said Henson.

鈥淭he reality is we all need a little help sometimes. Together, we can break the cycles of poverty and improve lives,鈥 said Henson.
