There are nearly 86,000 people in B.C. living with dementia.

An Alzheimer Society of Canada report predicts 247,000 will be diagnosed with the disease by 2050.

With the prevalence of the disease on the rise, many individuals and caregivers are struggling to access the care they need.

On Sunday, May 26, the Alzheimer Society of B.C. (ASBC) will host its largest annual fundraiser, the IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer鈥檚, presented by Go Auto.

The Walk funds crucial programs and services including dementia education, support groups, and the ASBC鈥檚 dementia helpline.

It鈥檚 also an opportunity to reduce the stigma surrounding dementia and promote active, social lifestyles.

鈥淒ementia affects everyone,鈥 said Cathryn France, ASBC chief development officer. 鈥淓veryone has a role to play in changing its future.鈥

She added that society is grateful for everyone who joins walks across B.C.

Provincial patrons, including the Aune Foundation, Cowell Foundation, and Lecky Foundation, will match online donations up to $100,000 until Sunday.

鈥淣o one should ever have to walk the dementia journey alone,鈥 said Michael Hladun, senior vice president of Go Auto. 鈥淲e are proud to support the collective effort of walkers, volunteers, and supporters.鈥

Information about donations and registration is available on the WalkForAlzheimers website.
