Poor weather conditions were present when a semi jackknifed on Highway 1 east of Sicamous on Saturday night, Feb. 22, 2025.

Poor road conditions were a factor when a semi lost control and wound up blocking a portion of Highway 1 east of Sicamous.

At 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22, RCMP responded to a report of a jackknifed tractor-trailer unit near Malakwa Loop Road. At the scene officers found the driver, the vehicle's only occupant, uninjured.

Sicamous RCMP Sgt. Murray McNeil said the driver was travelling westbound when he lost control of the vehicle and crossed the centre median, with the trailer coming to a rest in the westbound lane.

"Traffic was diverted around the truck and trailer without a highway closure," said McNeil in a media release.

The Malakwa Fire Department also responded and contained a diesel spill from one of the truck's fuel tanks that ruptured in the collision.
