The CIBC has contributed $50,000 towards the final stretch of the South Okanagan Similkameen Medical Foundation鈥檚 oncology centre campaign.

The campaign fundraiser is for a total of $10 million, with funding coming in from health care auxiliaries, businesses and organizations across the region.

鈥淲e are truly honoured by this incredible support,鈥 said Ian Lindsay, chief economic officer of the medical foundation.

鈥淐IBC鈥檚 commitment goes far beyond financial contributions鈥攊t鈥檚 a show of compassion and a dedication to improving care for those fighting cancer in our community.鈥

The fundraising campaign is in the final $1 million stretch ahead of the planned opening of the expanded cancer department at the Penticton Regional Hospital in the summer.

CIBC says the gift is part of its dedication to make a difference through corporate donations, sponsorships and the volunteer efforts of its employees.

鈥淐ancer is a cause that is very important to us at CIBC because it affects so many Canadians, including our team members, clients, and loved ones,鈥 said Ronan Ryan, executive director of the CIBC Foundation. He added that CIBC supports organizations working with cancer research, care and support programs.

鈥淲e鈥檙e proud to support the South Okanagan Similkameen Medical Foundation and its ambition of improving cancer care for the South Okanagan Similkameen community,鈥 he said.

The oncology centre will have double the number of beds and up-to-date equipment so people in the region can have access to cancer care close to home.
