The good times keep on rolling for Mathis Preston and the Spokane Chiefs.
Preston, a 16-year-old forward from Penticton, will play in the WHL's Western Conference Finals after helping the Chiefs defeat the Victoria Royals in Round 2 of the playoffs.
The graduate of Okanagan Hockey Academy and Penticton Minor Hockey Association has six goals in 11 playoff games with Spokane.
In 54 regular-season contests, Preston recorded 23 goals and 45 points. It marked his first full season in the WHL after he was selected third overall by the Chiefs in the 2023 draft.
He is currently pegged as a top prospect ahead of the 2026 NHL draft.
Preston and the Chiefs will battle the Portland Winterhawks in the Western Conference Finals, set to begin on April 25.
A victory in Round 3 would send Spokane to the WHL Championship Series, starting May 9. The winner of that set will advance to the Quebec-hosted Memorial Cup.
The Chiefs (45-20-1-2) finished third in their conference. They beat Vancouver and Victoria to reach the playoffs' third round.
